Later in February of the same year I returned with a small Alpine Club party. That time we stayed in the cabin. It was a mild, cloudy weekend with a bit of rain. I didn't feel 100% with a cold coming on and we only climbed Tarn Peak to have done something.
After a few summer trips ( see Hiking the Lizzie - Stein Traverse and A climb of Contemplation, Meditation and Lindisfarne ) I returned in 2000 with skis. In spring the Lizzie Creek road was often blocked by avalanches below Meadow Dome and Priory Pk. By the time it was possible to drive past the avalanches the road was usually dry to the lake and the trail bare most of the way through the forest. Middle of June I was again able to drive right to the lake. I can't remember how far I had to carry my skis but above treeline there was plenty of snow. I stopped for lunch at Gates of Shangri La and reached Arrowhead Lake in early afternoon. After setting up my tent on a dry spot to the west I skied up Tabletop. Later after dinner I had...
