Variations from the guide book to the McBride Range Ski Traverse
When I read Christian Veenstra's ultra highspeed Garibaldi ski traverse (Mt Curry to Diamond Head in 30+ hours) in the 2018 Canadian Alpine Journal page 119 where he mentions that the biggest problems of the McBride traverse are the lack of escape routes and the difficult ridge west of Drop Pass I realized that we had found solutions to this on our traverse back in 1991. Two weeks after the traverse I reconnoitered the escape via Cheakamus river and lake and along the traverse we bypassed the difficult ridge. See trip report McBride Range Direct. In that report I made a very short description of our traverse but now expanded that report with detailed waypoints and photos.

Day 1
We started with skinning up the Garibaldi Lake Trail, being rained on by snow melting on the trees. We made our first camp at Table bay SE of Mt Price where I knew we would find open water. [photo]img177.jpg[caption]Lisa and Peter starting to ski down the Phoenix Gl.[/photo]

Day 2
We skied up the Sentinel Glacier in the morning, then down into the Pitt River valley south of the Sphinx. In the afternoon up a narrow ridge with steep steps to below the glacier between Parapet and Isosceles, where we found a nice flat spot for my Big Blue three person tent. We then enjoyed the mellow evening sun. [photo]img178.jpg[caption]Our next camp was above the trees at left[/photo]

Day 3
Unfortunately a strong wind picked up during the night and in the morning a gale was rattling my tent so furiously that I was afraid it might collapse any moment. We didn't dare cook breakfast inside and with the -14C gale it was too uncomfortable outside. So we quickly packed up and skied through the Isosceles...
