A loop hike in the Olympic XC area.
After my hike See Overland to Cirque Lake I was very tired and was glad I had planned to spend the night at the Callaghan campsite. In the morning I drove down to the XC Ski area. The plan was to explore the Beverly Creek trail that we had skied to Puma Mtn in spring, then take the Rainbow Madeley trail to the lake. But at the trailhead it was obvious that there was no formed trail, only a crudely cleared route. Since I didn't know how difficult it would be to get around Key Lake without a good trail and I wanted an easy hike after the previous days exertions I stayed on the roads that are the XC trails. A bit further the road made a horizontal zigzag. At the second curve I looked whether there might be a trail leading to the falls, nothing, and again the forest looked unpleasant for bushwhacking. On top of the next hill I came to another fork. Straight ahead one sign said Keith's Challenge, the other Madeley Lake. I went that...
