Hanging Lake to Beverly Creek (via Spectrum Pass)

Difficulty: 3: Steep descent into Beverly Creek requires some avalanche avoiding route finding. Ski down Beverly creek often has bad snow.
Although only 820m elevation, this 18 km route is a full day. Alexander falls to Hanging Lake trail - Hanging Lake, Spectrum pass and down the steep gulch into Beverly Creek.
The general idea of this trip is to go through the pass between Spectrum Peak and Rainbow mountain, at 50.1693,-123.0743, and which I refer to as "Spectrum Pass". As you can see from a map, that pass joins the Beverly Creek drainage with the Hanging Lake drainage. I had wanted to do this route for some time. I first thought of doing it in a clockwise direction: Beverly Creek - Spectrum - Hanging Lake trail. But it turned out to be much better in a counterclockwise direction, so you go down not up the steep north side of Spectrum pass. The two backcountry trails you want to get to are the Hanging Lake Trail and the Beverly Lake trail. But to get to either trailhead, you have to route your way through or around the Whistler Olympic area.

The most common access to the Hanging Lake trail for day trips is to drive thru the main gate and pay $15 for parking at the Biathelon parking lot. But the problem is that the gate is locked at 4:30, and so you have a curfew hanging over your head all day. Therefore Scott Nelson and others have worked out procedures whereby you can park at Alexander falls and use certain "access corridors to get to the trailhead of your choice. Nobody could remember exactly how you'd get to the Hanging Lake trailhead from Alexander falls, but we decided on what I call the "South Skirt Route". For your future reference I carefully prepared a map showing the main Access Routes from both parking lots to both trailheads. Furthermore, I have marked these routes on GMap, as yellow dotted lines.
