Hanging Lake and Gin Peak from Callaghan Ski Area

Difficulty: 2: Confined open ski up through trees, difficult when icy. Easy ski up SW ridge to peak, with short little traverses across steep parts.
An increasingly popular ski trip in the Callaghan area.
We met at the church parking lot in Vancouver at 7:00 AM, and drove north to Callaghan Valley road. We reached the gate 10 minutes before it opened at 8:30AM, and had to wait in a lineup of about 10 other cars. After a bit of wait, we paid the $10/car and then drove to the Biathlon parking lot. There were about 5 other cars. There was one party ahead of us. Elevation 880m.

We skied northeast along the southern boundary of the biathlon area. And then easily found the signs directing us to the trailhead at the northeast corner of the lot. I suppose it is a matter of terminology if you regard the trailhead to be at the parking lot. (The official "Trailhead" sign is almost 1 km further east, at the point where you finally leave the old logging road.)

To get to the final trailhead, we followed a rough, icy but well used connector ski trail that ran along the north side of X-country area for about .9 km. We found out later that all the other parties we met on the Hanging Lake trail had gotten to the official trailhead via the logging road from the Day Lodge parking lot, not via the route we used. That route would avoid the sections of rough travel we had just done. There were frequent little dips on the trail, and on...
