Mount Foresta North Peak - East Ridge

First ascent of the North Summit of Mount Foresta (10960ft, 3341m) via the East Ridge.
Paul and Erik climbed the previously unclimbed North summit of Foresta. After an initial attempt the pair found a line taking a shallow rib to gain the E ridge at 1951m. The ridge itself was heavily corniced and composed of soft snow, making the cimbing committing. Eventually conditions improved above Camp 3 and the pair made better going on hard neve gaining the summit on May 8th.

Heavy snowfall and general poor weather hampered the descent but they were able to make it back to their basecamp before the storm arrived in full. At basecamp they were then forced to site out 48 hours of snowfall and a metre of fresh snow.

On the summit, GPS and altimeter readings gave a height of 10960ft (3341m), exactly 1000ft below the map height. Subsequent communication with USGS suggests that this is the result of a typo on the...
