A climb on the west side of Phyllis' Engine. From the upper Sphinx Glacier, a class 3 gully was scrambled for 30m on the west side of the peak. From here, one 60m pitch was lead to a belay just below the final summit - rock is excellent, and the climbing was consistant 5.8. Two shorter pitches could also be done as there is an excellent station along the way (that I didn't notice). The final tower is a short 5.8 lead on the east side, and is very exposed. Beware stuck ropes on the rappel from just below the summit - a 50m rope is ok for rappels. Routes on the west and north-west side of the "smokestack" look both very hard and very firm &...
