Mount Rogers - Swiss glacier headwall

Follow the Hermit meadows trail to the sign at its end, from there follow the climbers trail and moraines east until Tupper crest is reached. Avoid the temptation to climb directly up the length of the Swiss glacier. It may be shorter but will probably take more time finding a path through the crevasses. Follow Tupper crest north into the upper basin of the Swiss glacier. At the northwest end of the basin is a moderately steep snow slope (may be ice late in the season) heading up to Col Major (the col between Rogers and Grant). Climb this slope directly, there may be an open bergschrund or schrund's to deal with but they are relatively small. From the col follow the snowy ridge west to the summit. Beware of some small crevasses in the initial slope leading up from the col, and be sure to have a good look down the impressive north face.
