A seldom used approach to Mamquam Mountain
This route is probably best on skis, in summer it may be quite bushy. Take main Skookum Cr logging rd and head towards a switchback at apr.GR055110 (el.3500) leave rd. and traverse ESE, first steeply then more gently towards saddle GR070105 (el.4400). Traverse slightly down then up to stay above steep slopes until you reach a broad open slide. Avoid a dense band of trees by skiing into the creekbed which should be well bridged until April. Following the creek you soon reach a broad flat valley from where the approach to the glacier is obvious. In 1993 the route passed through a narrow steep gap between ice cliffs and rock. Bypass the lower icefall to the east. We skied through the wide saddle west of Illusion Pk to reach the summit via the northern icefield, to maximise our skiing. It may also be possible to use a steep couloir just west of the peak.
