Snowspider - South Ridge and Traverse
Timestamp Free: 2020.03.28 - 03:28:23
Ranges: North America Ranges / Pacific Cordillera Range / Coast Mountains / Pacific Ranges / Lillooet Ranges
(1 days) Elevation Gain: 1000m
Difficulty: 4: The gap between the two summits is stiff class 4.
A scramble from the south.
Ford Van Horlick Creek where the logging road bridge used to be (easier 100m downstream) and walk the road up the west side of Van Horlick Creek to the creek that drains the chain of lakes in the valley SE of Snowspider. Bushwack west, following the south side of this creek, to gain meadows and lakes - there is good camping near the chain of small lakes. The South Ridge is easily gained from the valley head and can be scrambled to the summit.
We did a 1 day loop trip where we ascended the S ridge and descended the NE ridge to gain the branch of the road that terminates near the Snowspider-Duke pass, which we followed back to the creek ford - it took us 11 hours return. This loop requires crossing a small gap between the two summits, which is easily doable without a rope for experienced scramblers.
