Caption: Mount Balcarres rises above the Medicine Tent River valley.

PhotoDescr: The north end of a long ridge that includes Mount Balinhard and Mount Meda, Mount Balcarres is another of the peaks in the Medicine Tent River area with a name connected to the Earl of Southesk. Balcarres was the home of Sir Coutts Lindsay, a friend of the Earl.

On the first day of a five-day backpacking trip into the eastern edge of Jasper National Park, the members of a group from the Grant MacEwan Mountain Club hiked over Rocky Pass into the Medicine Tent River valley. Mount Balcarres came into view around a ridge of Mount Cardinal shortly before the trail descended into the trees.
