Atwell Peak - South Ridge # 968

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2001.12.29
Vantage Point: From the 6800 foot (2073 m) summit of Diamond Head. (aka. Little Diamond Head)

Caption: This is the rugged south ridge of Atwell Peak as seen from the summit of Diamond Head.

PhotoDescr: Diamond Head (aka. Little Diamond Head) is an outstanding ski destination, providing good views of Howe Sound, the Mamquam Icefield, Tantalus Range, and this view of Atwell Peak's south ridge. This was done as a day trip from the Diamond Head parking lot. For those interested in climbing Atwell Peak, it would be convenient to stay overnight in the Diamond Head cabin at Elfin Lakes.

The ski out from Diamond Head was surprisingly good, considering the lack of fresh snow for quite a few days. (Variable snow conditions in a few areas.) And there was the added treat of a nearly full moon on the final leg out from the cabin. A superb trip!
