Cayoosh Mountain - Southwest Face # 9373

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2006.01.28
Vantage Point: From the Southwest Ridge of Cayoosh Mountain

Caption: Steep southwest exposure of Cayoosh Mountain. Note the heli stakes about 60 meters away (lower left in photo). I assume they ski the steep pocket glacier into the east fork of North Joffre Creek. The summer scramble route is not really seen to great advantage here, and involves a mellow gully and some easy climbing if memory serves.

PhotoDescr: Cayoosh is easily my favorite ski objective off the Duffey Lake Road. In fact, this was the second visit for us in as many weeks. The route we chose this day was the common southeast valley route. This is probably a better access route for yo-yo skiing type trips. A summit attempt in winter is most easily achieved via the steep east ridge (valley/spur), and involves a moderately steep 50 degree climb (ice axe recommended) to obtain the summit. The run back to the car in good conditions is phenomenal.

This day was ideal for views, but the ski conditions ranged from "skiable" to downright nasty.
