Ptarmigan, Lenticulars, Astarte # 9101

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2006.08.14
Vantage Point: From camp below Surt

Caption: Looking northeast from camp towards the broad south face of Mount Astarte

PhotoDescr: The ptarmigan in our camp below Surt were a continual source of amusement. Completely unaccustomed to any notion of prey, they would saunter through our camp at all hours chirping away. Far more welcoming camp hosts than the belligerent and incessant horseflies.

Astarte has a huge and loose north face, which composed the cover of the 1990 CAJ. Class 3-4 routes were done on the southeast and northeast ridges during the 1980 ACC camp. The mountain is most easily reached from Nirvana Pass.
