Polar Bear Peak - South Ridge # 8894

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2006.08.13
Vantage Point: From along the south ridge of Polar Bear Peak.

Caption: South ridge scramble route of Polar Bear Peak.

PhotoDescr: Taken on the last day of an 11-day trip into the Ape Lake area. I scrambled up the southwest ridge from camp in a basin southwest of the peak.

This is in the area where the route joins with the south ridge proper, and I had just gone through a steep section where the ridges don't quite connect smoothly. There was one other short steep section above, and the whole route was a pleasant scramble (mostly Class 2-3 with perhaps short sections of 4), with good views from the summit. I couldn't have asked for a better day!

It would also be possible to gain the entire south ridge by starting at the col just east of Polar Bear Lake. This would avoid the one steep section I encountered lower down.
