Mount Veniaminof # 8508

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2006.03.22
Vantage Point: From Air to ESE

Caption: A good aerial view of pretty much the entire massif of Mount Veniaminof with the currently active intra-caldera cone visible at center covered with dark ash. The large gap behind the cone is where the Cone Glacier flows to the W out of the caldera and the glacier flowing towards the camera is called the Slim Glacier. For reference purposes the caldera is approximately 7 km across.

PhotoDescr: The whole mountain is pretty much a walk up except for the more difficult NE (right) side of the mountain. Check out the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) if you like as there are currently three Orange Code active volcanoes in Alaska right now, and Veniaminof is one of them. You can see some of the ash trace on the snow downwards and left of the cone.
