Vantage Point: From the Himmelsbach Hut at Russet Lake

Caption: Tremor Mountain in the Spearhead Range, seen from Russet Lake

PhotoDescr: Four of us decided to spend three days over New Year's somewhere in the mountains, and we opted for the Russet Lake area, as none of us had ever been there before. Not to mention that we could avoid excess slogging from a low elevation by taking lifts up Whistler first. To our surprise, there were no others at the Himmelsbach Hut when we arrived, and nobody showed up during our three days there. I imagine the wicked storm on New Year's Day deterred anyone on that day at least. We were quite happy to have the hut there, as we imagined the unenjoyable time it could have been had we used the tent and bivies that were brought just in case. We did manage to get out and get some nice deep pow runs off Cowboy Ridge on New Year's day, thankfully out of the wind. The return to the hut was a bit epic though, skiing directly into the severe wind was pretty testing! And of course, the day we had to leave, we awoke to a beautiful day, and were treated to some spectacular views of the Spearhead Range as the sun came up. This shot shows the southwest side of Tremor, and I believe that should be Shudder Mountain (or part of it) in the right background. I'm looking forward to doing the Spearhead Traverse one of these days, the whole area back there looks amazing.
