Vantage Point: From east side of The Flatiron

Caption: The southwest side of Needle Peak showing off at dawn

PhotoDescr: Nancy and I spent a few fantastic days in the Needle Peak backcountry exploring and enjoying the scenery on our skis and snowshoes.

We'd had a late afternoon start from the sandsheds the night before as well as an enjoyable chat on the ridge with fellow "Bivouacer" Don Serl, who was also out enjoying the evening on his snowshoes.

We camped our first night near the small lake on the east side of The Flatiron. I awoke at first light and brewed some coffee and watched as Needle Peak lit up with the morning sun. This was surely mountain therapy at its most effective.

The day that followed saw sunshine, T-shirt temperatures and an ascent of Portia Peak.
