Blackcomb Peak: Lower DOA # 7679

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.11.13
Vantage Point: From Lakeside Bowl

Caption: Good winter snow on the lower DOA chute, west side of Blackcomb Mountain.

PhotoDescr: After some weeks of disturbances through the Whistler area, Sunday dawned with a promise of sunshine and the weather improved throughout the day. With better visibility and good stability, many folks were out and about checking the turns to be had in the Seventh Heaven area.

After some turns on Disease Ridge, I headed over to check out the lower section of DOA, just above Lakeside Bowl. Strong winds during storm events had transported considerable snow into the swale skier's right of the centre of the chute, which at this elevation is really more of a avalanche cone.

Coverage was reasonable and stable, so good turns were had down to the lake. Afternoon sun was starting to have a minor effect on the snowpack, but Monday's full sunshine probably had a greater effect on sunny aspects.

Still, good snow for the first half of November and a good start to the season.
