Mount Habel (Formerly Rhondda North) # 7677

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.06.20
Vantage Point: From the Peyto Hut

Caption: Mount Habel from the East, Habel/Baker col on the right and Habel/Rhonnda (south) col on the left

PhotoDescr: We took this photo while up on the Wapta Icefields in June 2005. While Calgary was flooding (this was the weekend it rained the most and the Bow messed up Princes Island Park), we were enjoying sunny conditions, getting nice turns, and bagging peaks. We didn't even know about the rain until reaching a detour on Highway 1 on the way home.

Having an old topo map, I didn't even realize that this peak wasn't called Rhondda North anymore until I got home and started looking at some new topos. Graeme Pole has great descriptions on the Habel page describing how to ascend the peak from either side of this photo.

In the morning these point releases on the east side of Habel were the only snow activity we'd seen but by the end of the day there was also activity on most other aspects. New snow in June + sunny day = lots of sliding to watch.
