Mount Elbert, the Highest Peak in Colorado # 7602

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2004.08.28
Vantage Point: From Honeymoon Cr. forest service road

Caption: Mt Elbert from the Honeymoon Creek forest service road

PhotoDescr: Well, it is not the Swiss Matterhorn, but it's not much lower and it's the highest peak in Colorado and the second highest in the USA outside Alaska. Therefore it is a very popular destination. The photo was made as I drove to my campsite on a cloudy afternoon. Luckily the next day was nice and clear. There are several approaches; I chose the shortest trail which runs along the ridge descending towards the center of the photo (the smaller pine in the foreground). A bit of the track is visible to the right of that tree above treeline.
