Caption: Chephren's massive east face under winter snows

PhotoDescr: First, have a look at Kevin's photo to compare summer/winter views of Chephren from nearly the same location. I found this photo while organizing my pictures on the computer. I am unsure of the actual date, but it was definitely March of '97. My brother had moved to Jasper before that winter, and by early March I had planned a trip with a friend to go up for a visit and some snowboarding. This shot was taken while on our way south down the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise for a few days. I couldn't remember the last time I had been through this part of the Rockies, as it was a long time ago when I was a youngster. Like a true tourist, my head was spinning every which way taking in all the amazing scenery I could handle! Chephren is certainly an eye-catcher. This has got to be one of my all-time favourite drives. There is a scrambling route up the south slopes (other side of the SE ridge--left skyline) described in Kane's Scrambles guidebook, as well as many other more technical options. Another one on my ever-growing list. . . .
