North Nesackwatch Spire North Ridge # 7379

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.07.06
Vantage Point: From in the upper chimney

Caption: Arran Scott soloing the chimney on the upper north ridge of the north spire, Ian Steele behind

PhotoDescr: Arran Scott, Ian Steele and I did the Nesackwatch enchainment (D- 5.8, as described in McLane's guidebook) in early July in about 11.5 hours car to car. I wanted to solo this chimney again for nostalgic reasons (after a tense moment during my winter ascent this February) and they happily obliged. The ledge below me in this photo wasn't so comforting in winter and the finger crack at the bottom of the photo is where the nut-and-biner rap station was that I hung my pack on to change my shoes. It was still there on this ascent and is now hanging safely in my trophy case.

We met a party on the summit who had climbed the 5.9 west ridge, and they were pretty stoked so I'm sure that is a great route too.

The Enchainment is very worthwhile and totally noncommitting for a "D" route. Escape is very straightforward at either col, and there is lots of really fun climbing on great rock.
