Atwell Peak in Late Summer # 733

Vantage Point: From the summit area of Mount Garibaldi

Caption: Atwell Peak from the summit area of Mt. Garibaldi. The town of Squamish and Howe Sound can be seen in the background.

PhotoDescr: This is a view of Atwell Peak from the summit area of Mt. Garibaldi, this picture taken after having made my first ascent of Garibaldi. I climbed the mountain's east side which was accessed from Elfin Lakes and the Garibaldi Neve. The Neve was heavily crevassed, being late in the season, and I do recall jumping across quite a number of them. There were also some tense moments in the final climb, as I was bombarded by a lot of loose pebbles (and luckily not struck by anything large). I completed this climb without an ice axe or crampons (had not yet aquired them) and was done as a day trip from the Diamond Head parking lot. I have found it better to climb this peak from the north side and in the spring.
