Queen Bess East Face from On High # 7117

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.08.02
Vantage Point: From Air North flight to Whitehorse

Caption: East face of Mount Queen Bess

PhotoDescr: "Good Queen Bess" buttress is left skyline, and north ridge is right skyline.

The big east face shown here was climbed in summer 2005 (probably without the fresh snow seen here) by Bruce Fairley and Harold redekop as a 15-ish pitch rock route at a reported 'Fairley 5.9' technical grade. The monsterous serac threatening the northeast face has diminished significantly since Don Serl and Mike Down were hunting the face in the 1980's, and the danger level appears to have also diminished. The slender couloir breaking most of the way through the true east face also looks good although the exit could be tricky.
