Lake Louise Arnica # 7091

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.07.30
Vantage Point: From scramble route on Panorama Ridge

Caption: The Lake Louise Arnica (Arnica louiseana) is one of three common varieties of arnica found in the Canadian Rockies.

PhotoDescr: I'm no botanist, but I believe from my collection of flower guidebooks that this is a fine example of the Lake Louise Arnica, one distinguishing characteristic of which is the sharp angle of the flower head on its stalk.

On the first day of the August Long Weekend 2005 (the first two days of which fell in July), I led a group up Panorama Ridge. The route led up an avalanche path that brightened our upward trudge with at least a dozen different alpine flowers in full multicoloured bloom.
