Jacques Creek Valley from Cinquefoil # 7030

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.07.17
Vantage Point: From below Cinquefoil Mountain summit

Caption: The little-used Merlin Pass Trail goes up the Jacques Creek Valley and over Jacques Pass between the Colin and Jacques Ranges. Mount Colin is the pointed peak on the right.

PhotoDescr: The day after a partially successful attempt on Hawk Mountain, three other members of the Grant MacEwan Mountain Club and I scrambled most of the way up Cinquefoil Mountain. From the highest point we reached on Cinquefoil, in a gully framed by vertical strata forming rock faces, I took this shot of the Jacques Creek Valley. Jacques Pass is in the distance. Merlin Pass in further along the trail, which joins the Jacques Lake/South Boundary trail near Jacques Lake.

Ambitious long-packers have reportedly used this trail as the nearest thing to a link of the South and North Boundary Trails, but from the north trailhead of the Merlin Pass trail must go back toward Jasper townsite to cross the Athabasca and then follow the Celestine Lake road to reach the southwest trailhead for the North Boundary Trail.
