Sand Dunes on the Shores of Jasper Lake # 6998

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.07.12
Vantage Point: From shore of lake

Caption: The dunes beside Jasper Lake are worthy of a desert environment.

PhotoDescr: Due to recent rains and snow, the Athabasca River, and thus Jasper Lake, were deeper than usual. Typically, the lake in the summer is a confused tangle of sandbars. The river flows very slowly here, depositing much of the silt carried from the glaciers and snowfields that feed it.

Along the south shore of the lake there is an area of sand dunes up to eight meters high.

The steep cliff face in the distance is Roche Miette. Further down the valley is the Boule Range.
