Atwell Peak in Winter # 6479

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.03.13
Vantage Point: From the summit of Mount Garibaldi

Caption: The north ridge of Atwell Peak in late winter. The city of Squamish and Howe Sound are in the background (both on the right).

PhotoDescr: This is the north ridge of Atwell in a low snow year and in late winter. If you're planning to climb this, the summit pinnacle looks like the biggest obstacle, and would require good snow conditons to safely ascend this.
I just finished climbing the north face of Garibaldi accessed via Brohm Ridge and the Warren Glacier. The climb was slow and laborious due to the difficult step kicking. There was a hard layer of snow below the surface which was tough to breach and the top layer was unsupportive. The ski back was great, albeit in the dark (with headlamp) and on styrofoam snow. A fantastic day out.
