Venus Slipper # 6311

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2004.05.29
Vantage Point: From the Cory Pass Trail

Caption: A little flower with a lot of personality.

PhotoDescr: Also known as Calypso bulbosa, this little orchid is about 10 cm tall. It grows in coniferous forests at medium elevations in the spring and summer. If you happen to come across one of these little guys consider yourself lucky; they are said to be rare. They are also edible but because they are rare, and just so darn cute, it's best to just leave them be. Also, some places will have laws against harvesting these flowers and besides, they're too small to be worthwhile.
