Flute Southeast Glades and the Spearhead Range # 6196

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2005.01.03
Vantage Point: From southeast of Flute Summit

Caption: A series of gentle and wind-sheltered glades lead to excellent views of the Spearhead Range and fine turns in the Musical Bumps.

PhotoDescr: For backcountry travellers moving east on the Musical Bumps towards Oboe Summit, Singing Pass, and Cowboy Ridge, the gentle east aspects of Flute Summit can provide excellent powder turns in the right conditions. When the open slopes are wind-affected, there are a number of good gladed routes that tend SE from Flute towards Oboe Summit.

These glades generally protect storm snow well during the winter months, so they provide good skiing under most circumstances. The views from the glades aren't too bad either, as the descending skier is looking directly at the Eastern Fitzsimmons Range and the Spearhead Range.

In spring, these same glades provide the first good corn of the morning after heading east from Flute Summit, as their aspect welcomes the early morning sun of a spring day.
