Williams Peak from ridge to west in early winter conditions # 596

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 1996.11.09
Vantage Point: From end of Williams Ridge hiking trail

Caption: The west face of Williams Peak from the knob at the end of the Williams Peak/Ridge hiking trail.

PhotoDescr: The standard route takes the right skyline; the west face variation (reportedly class 4) climbs an obvious chimney/gully above the right-to-left leaning snow patch to gain the summit rocks.

On this trip in early November we were looking for some quality early winter mixed climbing. We found drifts of dry powder snow and crotch-punishing postholing instead, ended up wandering up the standard route for a nice scramble. Another trip where lots of gear is carried many kilometers for no real purpose. Used headlamps for the last 3 hours of the walk out and lost the faint trail several times despite being on the ridge crest.
