Jacobsen Lake and the Frozen Circle of Hell # 5457

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2004.07.29
Vantage Point: From Talchako

Caption: View SSW over the lake at the snout of Jacobsen Gl. to Cerberus in the distance.

PhotoDescr: There is a triple summit above the lake snout. The two peaks in the back are Mount Beelzebub while the foreground peak is Mt. Griffiths named after mountaineer Blair Griffiths.

The high snowy peak in back is Cerberus. The other peaks visible are all named after inhabitants of Hell: Satan, Dagon, Azazel, Belial, Beelzebub etc. You can look these up in your copy of the Malleus Maleficarum or Dante. The possible exception is Mt. Rimmon.

Getting around the lake is the big difficulty in getting from Talchako to Ratcliff, which is out of photo to the left. The lake is getting larger by the year as the Jacobsen Gl. and unnamed glacier to its left, recede. Note icebergs in lake.

Mt Jacobsen itself is out of photo on the right.
