Bonanza Range and Tsitika River through the Haze # 5151

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2004.04.08
Vantage Point: From over Johnstone Strait somewhere

Caption: View south to the Bonanza Range

PhotoDescr: I think this is actually a pretty bad picture but decided I would post it so there were pictures available of the Bonanza Range on Bivouac. If someone can obtain some better ones I will be happy to delete it.

The view is looking south over Robson Bight up the Tsitika R. to the Bonanza high points. Ashwood is the left of the two double summits and Bonanza is the cool looking tower just to the right. In the Fairley guide these two summits are confused; Island Alpine has the real story. Probably Whiltilla and Tsitika mountains are on the right but they may actually be out of the picture.

The rock in the area is solid pillow basalts with some granite intrusions. Bonanza is a very impressive tower with some steep faces. The existing routes are ridge scrambles. The low elevation and corresponding vegetation make winter routes up the steep faces an interesting possibility.

I worked in this area for a while in 1993 but it rained every day and none of my pictures of the peaks from that tour of duty turned out.
