Van Horlick Alpine Bliss # 4916

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2003.07.23
Vantage Point: From Ridge Above Lake

Caption: The incredible lake between the forks of Van Horlick Creek with Peak 7900 looming behind.

PhotoDescr: Such a beautiful and neglected area right behind the "scene" of the Joffre group, the summits between the forks of Van Horlick Creek are a playground of granitic scrambles with quite possibly one of the nicest campsites around on the sand terraces of the shore of the lake.

My friend Tim is one of those folks who refuses to participate in the fetishizing of outdoor gear. He has one, large, insulated pair of boots to encompass every activity from day hikes to their intended expeditionary use, and scratches his head at the idea of a bivy sack. You can see him here airing out the tent fly which we thought might make a good tarp after I had refused to bring a tent in the middle of summer. It doesn't work, trust me. You may have dreams of luxurious saunas, but you will wake up in a cloistered and dank cloak of nylon!

Peak 7900 behind certainly has a big, slabby north face, easily visible driving down the Van Horlick Main. Best accessed off the other branch of the FSR I suppose.
