Urd Peak # 4821

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2003.08.16
Vantage Point: From summit of Devils Dome

Caption: Looking due north from the summit of Devils Dome to Urd Peak and upper Hird Lake.

PhotoDescr: The northern portions of the Devils Range are seldom visited, but the famous and massive Valhalla ski traverse descends from Lucifer col to travel by Hird Lakes and through the col west of Urd. This portion of the traverse is supposedly both spectacular and potentially very threatened by avalanche hazard in times of snowpack instability.

Dorval Peak is out of picture left, and Demers is just out of photo right. Behind Urd are the imaginatively named Ice, Hail, and Snow Creek valleys, the only real bad weather escape routes in this part of the traverse.
