Seracs on Satsalla Glacier # 4584

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: September 2003
Vantage Point: From helicopter

Caption: A big serac.

PhotoDescr: As little as ~15 years ago (1987) this was an icefall. Now it has disconnected due to melt and has become a serac. I was actually impressed enough by it I asked the pilot to not fly too close.

Note waterfall emerging from base of ice.

For scale: the serac band is 40-50m high more or less. This photo was taken from a fair distance away as we were making a turn to go back out of this cirque.

The glacier in this picture is actually a tributary of the main Satsalla.

The Silverthrone Icefield proper is just over the ridge behind the serac.
