Mount Mason - Southwest Side # 4494

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2003 August
Vantage Point: From Port Douglas

Caption: Looking up Douglas Creek to the south side of Mount Mason.

PhotoDescr: Pity about the approach, Mason is a beautiful looking peak and that silvery granite is quite inviting. You can see what inspired Clarke to spend so much time getting to the top of this one!

This peak encapsulates one of the more remote areas in southwest BC, the Douglas-Nahatlatch divide. While there are logging roads running up the Nahatlatch, they are closed to the public, and no roads run up Douglas Creek. Not much has changed climbing-wise -- as far as I know -- since Fairley's book came out. "Write if you have details," the subsection in his book pleads -- I always wondered to whom.
