Vintage Photo of Cascade Mtn from Banff Avenue - 1940s # 4373

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: late 1940s
Vantage Point: From Bridge over Bow River, Banff

Caption: Vintage Photo of Cascade Mountain from the Bow River Bridge in Banff

PhotoDescr: This picture must raise a smile from those familiar with Banff today - Banff in quieter times, no tour buses or heavy traffic, less commercialization of the main strip, the lack of crowds. After sharpening and constrasting it a bit from the original scan's tones, I was pleased to see the gleam of sun on the snows of the peak, and the huing of the shadow in the valley; those old box cameras took some amazing pics, considering the lack of advanced lenses or filters!

I'm not sure which of my parents took this photo, as both came to BC independently in the late 1940s and both came by train, stopping in Banff as nearly everyone did to take in the place before continuing onto the Coast. I've got several other vintage Rockies photos from this and other trips back then, but will hedge on posting them until I've checked with people more familiar with that range, which I'm not; I've only been in Banff half-a-dozen times, and never long enough to "study" the mountainscapes there or become familar with them. This one's a stunner, though, and at least I'm certain it's Banff (even if I didn't know which way the peak should stand).
