Hurricane Ridge and Mount Olympus from Mount Angeles # 4297

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.

Vantage Point: From near the summit of Mount Angeles

Caption: View southwest from near the summit of Mount Angeles. The massif of Mount Olympus in the background.

PhotoDescr: Jelte Harnmeijer and I drove towards Mount Adams for a daytrip one early February morning. Jelte had just bought skis and was eager to get a sense of backcountry skiing. Nearly there, we had to stop on the side of the highway because the wipers on my old Chevy could not handle the rain. We turned back and headed to Olympia, then Port Angeles and finally Hurricane Ridge. Camped under the south ridge of Mount Angeles and when the sky was crystal clear early in the morning we scrambled up several icy couloirs until we found one leading to the true summit. The views from the summit to Vancouver Island and the Coast Mountains were excellent. It can be hard to recognize "our" peaks from such angle.
