Silver Star Mountain # 4272

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2003.08.31
Vantage Point: From the edge of the Silver Star Glacier, north of the mountain.

Caption: Silver Star Mountain and Glacier from the north.

PhotoDescr: This was taken from the edge of the Silver Star Glacier enroute to Silver Star Mountain. After seeing these crevasses, I decided not to go any further without a rope, as some of the crevasses were open right across the glacier, and it was generally quite heavily broken up. On my way back down, I met up with a climbing couple from Portland, Oregon who were also planning to summit Silver Star. After mentioning the broken nature of the glacier, they seemed thrilled about the added challenge of trying to get through this, as they were equipped with a rope. I noticed that the ice was getting hard in certain areas,so crampons would be an absolute must if venturing on to the glacier this late in the season.
