Wedge Mountain from Rainbow Pass # 4249

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2003.07.20
Vantage Point: From Rainbow Pass

Caption: From west of Whistler Valley, Wedge Mountain, the highest peak in Garibaldi Park, normally dominates the skyline

PhotoDescr: Once again, seeking relief from the near 40C temperatures in the Whistler Valley, we headed up to the alpine to enjoy the flowers in Rainbow Pass and some relief from the omnipresent daytime heat.

From the rough track to Beverley Lake, we ascended a number of ridges to the west, until we got this clear view of Wedge Mountain. Included in this view is the West Couloir, Mt. Parkhurst, and the profile of the N Arete, the classic route on the mountain.

The long south aspect of the mountain leads down to Wedge Creek and Wedge Pass. Some climbers have used this route to descend the mountain, though this is more popular with winter climbers who take advantage of the long face for ski or board descents. Note that the exit via Wedge Creek to Hwy 99 is not a viable option, as Wedge Creek narrows into a gorge on its way to joining the Green River.
