Fitzsimmons Range from Piccolo Summit # 3949

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2000.09.18
Vantage Point: From Piccolo Summit

Caption: Looking ESE down the musical bumps towards the connection between the Fitzsimmons and Spearhead Ranges on a typical early fall day.

PhotoDescr: Taken during a fall hike in a low snow year, this photo demonstrates the wide-open terrain above tree line along the gentle summits of the Musical Bumps. A hiking trail leads along the height of land across Piccolo, Flute, and Oboe Summits before dropping to Singing Pass.

Beyond Singing Pass, the trail climbs again to Russett Lake and the Himmelsbach Hut before leading up the col between Fissile and Whirlwind Peaks. From this pass, routes lead across the Overlord Glacier or Refuse Pinnacle to the mountains of the Eastern Fitzsimmons Range.

The geological variety of the area and the attendant range of colours is most notable during the fall months and is especially heightened after the first frosts begin to colour the alpine vegetation.

The area continues to be popular after snow flies, providing excellent touring for at least seven months a year.
