Banff Townsite, Tunnel Mountain and Mount Rundle, 2001 # 379

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2001.03.18
Vantage Point: From Norquay Road

Caption: The morning sun shines on Rundle's east face while Banff townsite sleeps in the shadow of Tunnel Mountain. Mount Rundle's signature tilted strata are brought out by the remains of the winter's snow. The small mountain in the valley is Tunnel Mountain; the tunnel for which it is named was never constructed.

PhotoDescr: The original plans for the Canadian Pacific Railway called for a tunnel to pierce the mountain; it was later found to be unnecessary. Both Tunnel Mountain and Rundle have established rock-climbing routes, while Rundle also features some challenging ice-climbing routes when conditions are right.
