Sky Pilot- West Ridge ledge traverse of doom # 349

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 1996.07.01
Vantage Point: From just ahead

Caption: Mike Buda traversing a rotten ledge on the south face of Sky Pilot's west ridge.

PhotoDescr: The West Ridge of Sky Pilot is a nice class 2-3 if you avoid this ledge traverse and scramble over the subsummit. Unfortunately the line of the climb drawn on the photo in Fairley's guide follows the ledge and the text implies you follow the ledge too. It is a heinous, exposed, loose class 3 and definitely should be avoided. Unless you like that kind of thing. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, I liked it. But I would not do it again. The base of the gendarme is just past this point.
