Caption: These pingos rising out of the tundra are near the edge of the Beaufort Sea.

PhotoDescr: A [a href=http://polarhusky.com/alphabet/pingo.htm target= blank]pingo[/a] is defined as an isolated, conical, ice-cored mound occurring in areas of permafrost. The term comes from Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit, and is unique to Canada.

Philip Mees is a member of the Grant MacEwan Mountain Club, and currently (2002-2003) is serving as president. Philip flew into Tuktoyaktuk before returning via the Dempster Highway.
