Mount Athabasca from the East # 2825

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2002.10.12
Vantage Point: From the Saskatchewan Glacier Trail

Caption: This side of Mount Athabasca is much less familiar than the view from the Athabasca Glacier side.

PhotoDescr: The peak partly concealed behind Athabasca is Andromeda, and the long ridge on the left is the southeast ridge of Andromeda. All the standard routes on both peaks are on the other side.

When snow closed the Edith Cavell Road and left the 17 members of a joint Alpine Club of Canada (Edmonton Section) and Grant MacEwan Mountain Club work party unable to get to the Wates-Gibson ACC Hut in the Tonquin Valley, we made the best of the situation, took over the Beauty Creek Hostel for our Thanksgiving weekend, and hiked to the toe of the Saskatchewan Glacier.
