Mountain Goats by the Athabasca River # 208

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 1975.06.07
Vantage Point: Icefields Parkway

Caption: A family of mountain goats keeps hydrated from a roadside stream in Jasper National Park.

PhotoDescr: This group of mountain goats (Oreamnos americanus) made a roadside appearance to the delight of the passing parade of tourists. Although mountain sheep are such a common roadside and road-centre occurrence as to be a nuisance and a danger, mountain goats are (for me, anyway) much less usual. This occasion was the only one I can recall when I have seen goats beside the road.
