Gimli from SW # 199

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 1999.07.29
Vantage Point: From saddle SW of peak.

Caption: Gimli's southwest side seen from the approach trail.

PhotoDescr: Gimli is an excellent rock peak in the Valhalla Range. The south ridge (right skyline of SW face) is one of the best 5.8's in Canada. Also visible are the 5.11a Southwest Face (put up in 1998 by John Chilton, Jia Condon et al) and the overhanging West Arete (Space Buttress, 5.11 A2 or 5.12 a0) - see 2002 CAJ) The Valhallas see about 1/10th the traffic of the Bugaboos and have great rock minus the glacial approaches. On the downside there is no hut. But hey, you don't have to pay to camp there either! Fred Beckey and I had just bailed off the S. ridge after Fred realized his ear infection wasn't going to let him climb. I went back 2 years later and climbed the route
