Griswold Peak - North aspect from Microscope SE1 # 18780

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2019.08.07
Vantage Point: From the summit of Microscope SE1, looking SE

Caption: The summit of Griswold is at right, above the visible glacial lake. Griswold S1 is to its right, with Sorcerer in the far right background.

PhotoDescr: Taken on the fourth day of a 6 day trip to the Slim Creek Headwaters. Up to this point on our trip we had only seen the dry sides of Griswold, so it was interesting to see the northern aspect. The glaciers on this side form the western headwaters of Griswold Creek.

The large glacial lake below Griswold is the same one mentioned in Klaus Haring's report from 2001 with some glacial ice calving into it. While that no longer appears to be the case the glacier does not appear to have retreated significantly since that time.

We appreciated the striated pattern in the moraine rocks visible here, left of the two glacial lakes.
